“Why did you decide to switch from trucking to project management?”

Honestly, after years of running my own trucking business, I realized that what I really enjoyed wasn’t just the driving, it was the behind-the-scenes planning. Managing routes, coordinating deliveries, and handling unexpected issues on the fly. That kind of problem-solving and organization was something I naturally gravitated toward. I started learning more about project management and saw how much overlap there was, especially around logistics, time management, and communication. So I made the decision to formalize that interest, got my Google Project Management Certificate, and now I’m really excited to bring my real-world experience into a new space where I can grow and contribute in a bigger way.

“How did you prepare for this transition?”

I prepared for this transition by building on the operational and leadership skills I used daily as a trucking company owner and formalizing them through certifications and structured training. I completed the Google Project Management Certificate, earned a Six Sigma Black Belt, and became a Certified Scrum Master to back my hands-on experience with proven frameworks. Running a business meant managing budgets, schedules, risks, and stakeholders—exactly what project managers do. The difference now is I’ve combined that real-world execution with industry-standard methodologies to step confidently into a formal project management role.

“Why leave a self-employed role where you were your own boss?”

Being my own boss taught me a lot from managing time and money to handling every problem that came up on my own. However, after a while, I realized I missed working with a team and being part of something bigger than just me. I enjoy collaborating, solving problems together, and having a shared goal to work toward. Project management really clicked for me because it lets me do all of that while still staying organized and lead, but within a team where I can keep learning and make a bigger impact. So for me, it’s not about giving something up it’s about leveling up and doing something more connected and long-term.
